Dr. Abod

DR. ABOD

Samantha R. Abod D.M.D., MMPH, a native of Harvey’s Lake, has been practicing orthodontics in Northeastern Pennsylvania since 2008. She earned her D.M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh where she studied biochemistry and also earned a Multidisciplinary Masters in Public Health and a Certificate in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics.

Dr. Abod has served as president of the Luzerne County Dental Society, Scranton District Dental Society president, Third District of Pennsylvania Dental Association president and now Trustee to the Pennsylvania Dental Association. Dr. Abod also serves as a board member of the Schulman Group orthodontic organization, and she is an active member of her local Spear Study Club.

Dr. Abod was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor society and received several awards during her residency including recognition from the International College of Dentists, Kay F. Thompson Academic Scholarship, Ruth Freedman Academic Scholarship, T-35 Short Term Dental Research Training Scholarship, and a national award for co-creating Crest Healthy Smiles outreach projects and Give Kids a Smile Day.



For her research in fluoride releasing varnishes, Dr. Abod also merited the David C. Hamilton award from the Pennsylvania Association of Orthodontists. Currently, she is a member of the AAO, ADA, PDA and has served as President of the Luzerne County Dental Society. Dr. Abod truly appreciates the value of community service and has completed a medical mission to Guanaja, Honduras.

Dr. Abod lives in Shavertown with her husband Bryan Bellas and their children Eulina and Michael. She truly values the ability to treat friends and family in her hometown where she is ready and available to provide excellent care!

Dr. Mariotti

DR. MARIOTTI

Dr. Mariotti began working toward a career in orthodontics after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Scranton. He went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Temple University, and after graduating, he joined the United States Army and was commissioned as an officer with the rank of Captain in the Army Dental Corps. He spent three years being stationed at Ft. Stewart in Georgia, and after completing his tour of duty, Dr. Mariotti returned to New York where he pursued his post-graduate degree in orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Center at the University of Rochester.

The Eastman Center is recognized as one of the top dental training centers in the United States. While studying at Eastman, Dr. Mariotti did research in growth and development and TMJ disorders. He was recognized as an outstanding student, and before graduating, he was invited to join one of the faculty practices. After receiving his Certificate in Orthodontics, Dr. Mariotti began practicing in 1984. He completed his requirements for Board Certification by the American Board of Orthodontics and was certified in 1990, and re-certified in 2004.



Since returning to Scranton, Dr. Mariotti has been very active in community affairs. He has served as President, and also Chairman of the Board, of the Scranton District Dental Society, and is presently on the Board of the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, also serving as president in 2005.


Dr. Mariotti is an active member of the Medical Alumni Board at the University of Scranton. During the past few years he has been chosen to be a fellow of the International College of Dentists and to the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Both societies honor doctors throughout the world who aspire to excellence.

Dr. Serio

DR. SERIO

Carolyn G. Serio, DMD, MS, grew up in Northeast Pennsylvania and attended the University of Scranton, where she studied biochemistry, cell and molecular biology and began pursuit of her dream of becoming an orthodontist. During her time there she was awarded the Bernard Shair award for greatest promise in the field of dentistry as exemplified by the late Dr. Shair. She went on to earn her DMD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2021, where she also earned a Certificate in Public Health. This brought her to Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry, where she earned a Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics along with a Masters in Oral Health Sciences in 2023.

During residency she completed a Master’s thesis research study on White Spot Lesions and Malocclusion Severity, which she presented at the annual AADOCR conference in Portland, Oregon.  



Currently Dr. Serio is an active member of the Luzerne county and Scranton District dental societies, of which she serves as the Secretary. She is also a member of the Medical Alumni Council of the University of Scranton, and presented on Access to Orthodontic Care and Importance of Referrals for the 2023 Medical Alumni Symposium. She has returned to her hometown to serve her local community and provide the highest level of care possible! In her spare time she enjoys painting, soccer, dancing, and spending time with her family and her cat Nelly.
